Heavy bronze sculpture piece of art decor French art on a marble plinth. Designed and signed on the base by Henri Bargas in the 1930's this art deco bronze sculpture epitomizes the industrialization on mankind in bronze. Not as angular as later art deco forms this sculpture by Bargas is more Herculaean in style. Henri Bargas was a French sculptor who exhibited at many exhibitions during the 1930's and is probably more famous for his terra-cotta sculptures.

Not sure if this original bronze has a name other than the references of "Man turning a capstan with large chain links". Great aesthetic form with accurate anatomical movement make this an appealing sculpture. A capstan is a rotating machine developed for use on sailing ships to apply force to ropes and cables. A great addition to your French sculpture, art bronze collection or nautical themed man cave.
