Small capped-resist in cherry blossom pattern

Technique: Ko-Boushi Shibori - Small capped-motif bound-resist simulates cherry blossoms or other playful gestural motifs. Process illustrations are from the book   by Wada, Rice, and Barton. (c)1983

Pattern: Sakura Chirashi - Scattered/falling cherry blossom petals. Cherry blossoms are a symbolic flower of the spring, a time of renewal. Their blossoms start to fall within two weeks, which symbolizes the fleeting nature of life. Their falling petals are a part of their beauty. The people in Japan like having cherry blossom parties with colleagues, friends, and family, eating and drinking under the cherry blossoms. This custom, which can be traced back over a thousand years, is called hanami, which literally means “viewing blossoms." Even in the evenings, yozakura, night cherry blossoms, are enjoyed under torches lit around parks and gardens.
